Nationality
To qualify for the SSC Stenographer 2023 exam, candidates must either be an Indian citizen or:
- A subject in Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who immigrated to India before January 1, 1962, or
- A person who has immigrated from East African countries including Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam
- Applicants other than Indian nationals must possess a certificate of eligibility issued in their favor by the Government of India.
Educational qualification
To qualify for SSC Stenographer 2023 candidates must have passed 12th class or equivalent examination from a recognized board.

The SSC Stenographer 2023 exam is divided into two parts, first is computer based exam and second is shorthand/stenography skill test.
SSC Stenographer 2023 CBT Exam Pattern
The first level is Group C and Group D online written test consisting of multiple choice questions. A total of 200 questions of one mark per question are asked in the exam. Also, each wrong answer will carry 0.25 negative marking.

Shorthand/Stenography Skill Test
SSC Stenographer Skill Test is conducted on Papers and Computers. Candidates will be instructed to pass 800 and 1000 words per minute for groups D and C respectively. Also, Group D required 50 minutes and Group C 40 minutes to copy the shorthand passage on the computer.
