The West Bengal Government has launched the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme to provide basic income support to female heads of households. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide Rs 500 per month to general class families and Rs 1000 per month to SC/ST families. About 1.6 crore families in West Bengal Will benefit from this project. The scheme has been launched keeping in mind the average monthly expenditure of a household in the state which is Rs.5249 With the financial assistance provided through this scheme, 10% to 20% of a beneficiary’s monthly expenses will be covered. The benefit amount under this scheme will be directly credited to the bank account of the beneficiaries.

Lakshmi Bhandar Project Rules and Guidelines
West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme Guidelines and Rules announced by West Bengal Government. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 500 to poor families. Families belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will get a monthly allowance of Rs.1000. Eligibility and other criteria for availing the benefits of this scheme has been issued by the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare on 30 July. The scheme will be effective from 1st September It may be noted that this project was a part of Trinamool Congress’s election manifesto.
All eligible female heads of households will get basic income support under this scheme. Financial benefits will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account. About 1.60 families in West Bengal will benefit from this scheme.
West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme Rules and Guidelines
- Benefit amount will be given under this scheme from September
- Beneficiaries can get an application form free of cost from government camps held across the state
- Applicants can apply from 16 August to 15 September
- All applicants are required to submit all the required documents including an Aadhaar card, bank account passbook along with the application form
- Households having at least one tax-paying member cannot apply under this scheme
- General category women who own more than 2 hectares of land also cannot apply under this scheme
- The benefit amount will be credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account
- Beneficiary’s Aadhaar number should be linked with the bank account
- Women of West Bengal who are permanent residents and between the age of 25 to 60 years can apply under this scheme.
- Women who are in permanent employment in private and public sector cannot avail this scheme

The main objective of West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme 2023 is to provide basic income support Female head of household. Through this scheme, female heads of households will be paid Rs 500 (General category) and Rs 1000 (SC and ST category). Bank transfer under Lakshmi Bhandar scheme will be started
West Bengal State Finance Department is going to start direct benefit transfer under Lakshmi Port Project from 1st September. Women who have applied under the scheme will get a monthly financial assistance of Rs 500 to Rs 1000 in their bank account. This plan was the election manifesto of the Trinamool Congress. Women who have no government job and are between 25 to 60 years of age will get the benefit of this scheme As of August 31, around 1.1 crore applications have been received under the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme.
- About 2 crore women are expected to benefit from this scheme. DBT facility will be available from 1st September and scrutiny of applications is still going on. After submitting the application form, an acknowledgment slip will be issued to the beneficiary.
- After proper verification the money will be transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account. All beneficiaries can check the amount receipt from their bank. Banks will start working full time from 2nd September.
- Many new accounts are being opened due to Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Citizens can contact the bank from 10 am to 4 pm
